Cleveland Ohio Culinary Schools
Cleveland is perhaps the strongest contender for culinary arts capital of Ohio. Several foods are truly unique to Cleveland: beef cheek pierogies, served with a side of crème fraiche; The Polish boy - an Eastern European-inspired sausage topped with fries and hot sauce; and pork chops. The national food press like Gourmet magazine, Food & Wine, Esquire and Playboy.com have all heaped praise on Cleveland for best new restaurant, best steakhouse, best farm-to-table programs, and best new neighborhood eateries.
One culinary arts trend that did not originate in Cleveland, but has influenced its cuisine significantly in recent years is the farm-to-table movement. According to The Plain Dealer, about 53 CSAs (community supported agriculture) operate in Northeast Ohio and many local chefs have worked closely with area growers. The farm-to-table movement has even changed the way many Cleveland chefs cook, and, in turn, the way some culinary schools in Ohio teach. Average salaries in Cleveland for bakers run $25,000; food service managers can earn upwards of $51,000; restaurant cooks can pocket $21,000, chefs and head cooks see about $41,000.
