Grilled Asparagus
Come Spring, two of my favorite culinary pleasures are grilling and asparagus. so, in this recipe video, you probably know where I’m going…yes, grilled asparagus. I love asparagus prepared just about any way, shape or form, but grilling is definitely one of my favorites. The char and smokiness that you get from grilling, really adds to the flavor of the asparagus, and make it a lot more interesting. Grilling also makes asparagus much more wine friendly (and wine friendly is something we like). You can prepare and serve grilled asparagus simply, as I do here, or take a bit of added time to dress it up with sauces, greens, goat cheese, etc….just about any way is great. Hope you enjoy it.
Recipe Overview and Keys to Success
There are really only two things to watch for when grilling asparagus:
- First, don’t overcook the asparagus. Overcooked, the spears become limp, and lame. Best thing you can do is use very high, and cook them for just a few minutes on both sides…they don’t take long
- Make sure you lay the spears on the grill perpendicular to the grill grate…otherwise you’re going to lose a whole lot of them to the grill gods.
RECIPE FOR GRILLED ASPARAGUS
Ingredients (for about 2 people)
- 1/2 lb of Asparagus – or however much you feel like eating
- Olive oil
- Salt and pepper
Making the Grilled Asparagus
- Clean the asparagus by removing the woody end of the spears
- Preheat your grilled to a very hot temperature
- Toss the asparagus with some olive oil to coat, and season with salt and pepper
- Lay the asparagus down on the grill perpendicular to the grates, and just like anything else…leave them alone for 3 – 4 minutes
- At that point, check one or two, and you should see some charring on the underside
- Once charred, rotate the spears so the opposite side is near the flames, and let them cook for another 2 minutes
- Remove from the grill, squeeze a tiny bit of lemon juice on them; re-season if needed and enjoy
