Spaghetti Bolognese
Of my favorite Italian classic is Spaghetti Bolognese (Spaghetti with meat sauce). This is the spaghetti of my childhood, with the ground meat, tomato sauce over spaghetti noodles with some garlic bread on the side. While I haven’t taken my mom’s recipe line by line (sorry mom) it’s reasonable close and I think it’s absolutely delicious. The sauce does take some time to make, but it’s not hard. And, you can make a very large batch, freeze the extra and pull it out for a great plate of Spaghetti Bolognese in no time at all. In this recipe video, I show you how to make the sauce and then toss with some spaghetti for one of my favorite comfort food dishes. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
RECIPE FOR SPAGHETTI BOLOGNESE
Ingredients (for 2 people)
- 1 cup Bolognese sauce
- 1/3 lbs of pasta
- 3 – 4 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
- Olive oil
Recipe Overview and Keys to Success
To make the best Spaghetti Bolognese you can, you should try to make sure you to the following:
- If you can make your own Bolognese sauce. It really does make a difference, but if you can’t…I understand
- Don’t overcook your pasta. Be mindful of how long it’s been boiling, and start tasting it a couple minutes before the package suggest you should. Tasting is the only make to make sure its al dente
- Mix the pasta and sauce together in the sauce pan, over the heat – as opposed to putting the sauce on top. I know over the top looks cool, but when mixed together, the pasta absorbs and thickens the sauce a bit, and really makes a more cohesive dish
Making Spaghetti Bolognese
- I show you how to make the sauce in the video, but I’m not going to write it all out here again. You can head over to the Bolognese Sauce page for the full recipe
- Bring a large pot of water to the boil and add a few tablespoons of salt
- Add the spaghetti and stir in the water every couple minutes to prevent sticking
- Start tasting the pasta a few minutes before the suggested cooking time; and drain it when it reaches al dente
- Make sure your sauce is simmering, turn up the heat, and then add the pasta to the sauce
- Toss the two together until everything is well coated. You may need to add a bit more sauce or even a bit of pasta water if it looks to dry
- Turn the heat off, add a about 2 tablespoons of cheese and a few glugs of olive oil, and again toss to combine
- Plate the spaghetti and garnish with a bit more of the parmesan cheese
Enjoy!!
